How Hannah Horvath is my new style crush...

I started watching Girls this summer, and though at first my friends were just so into that they'd watch random episodes and I had no clue what was going on...I totally thought I'd never get into. Night after night, I fell in love with the girls on the show more and it immediately became one of my favorite things to watch. With all the kimonos I have, I was clearly a Jessa (style-wise)...recently however, I've realized that I've been picking a lot of things that are "veerrrryyy Hannah Horvath". Sure they are, how could a sudden penchant for florals, rompers, and muted dusty colors be anything close to what I'd ordinarily wear...Clearly Hannah's tastes have manifested into my love for glam heels and tough sweet coquettishness.

It's been a rough week, and I'm glad that finally  the orgo prelim is out of the way…(I was so surprised by the epoxide question, so last semester). I can't believe I'm going home to see all my dearest people. First though, a tiny trip to the city so I can tick off the things I need to get for my little sister. <3  

The clock tower face turned green as of 2 am or something last night…It's beginning to creep me out because I feel like an alien head is watching me from my window… 

 

Since I've got an organic chem prelim on Valentine's Day...

Since I was 15, I've spent every birthday the same way--with slight deviations in the afternoon. Have breakfast at the Yellow Cafe in Selfridges...(or whatever they've changed their name to now...it changes seasonally)...We're convinced that they have the best cappuccinos in London. (oh me and mummy, obvi). Then, we'll go to Harrods.. and we'll go to Alaia, then Balmain on the second floor and I'll pick my bday gifts. I've grown to only love buying Balmain/Alaia on my bday...Then we'll go have dinner at Cafe Rouge.  Somewhere in the afternoon, we go to Ottolenghi where we'll have more cappuccinos and I'll have an almond croissant (which I'll only eat from Ottolenghi only...on my bday). 

And then we'll go to Harvey Nichols...for our last cappuccinos of of the day. And maybe a brownie... 

Okay so I was explaining this to a friend while in nyc, but you know how when sometimes you see things...and think, omg I love that! But I won't buy it, because it's supposed to be gifted to me...? That way it'll mean more..(no...?) I always see things I like but then won't buy them because I feel like I'd appreciate them more as gifts. Anyways, so, earlier in the year I came across this...

 

Net-a-Porter

[As a preface, I wanna say that I love Marilyn Monroe so much that I have to constantly be reading a book about her all year round...despite maybe having already read them previously.] So I saw that on the net-a-porter website and refrained from buying it because I thought...hmm...that is something that would make such a good gift to me. A few months later, I got an alert that it sold out, and it's a limited edition book...and I freaked out! I should never ever go through that thought process again...but bracelets and rings are an exception.

 

I finally went to Browns yesterday to see my favorite girl there and to pick up my gifts from Meadham Kirchhoff! Browns have had them earlier, and I got a preview of them all wrapped up so I couldn't wait to open everything up. Inside were really cool pieces of costume jewellery. 

 I love them, and wore the ring as soon as I saw it. I'm so obseesed with MK. I'm gonna have a seperate room for all my Meadham Kirchhoff clothes, and make it all like carebear cool 90s kawaii with hello kitties up every corner.

The girl who wouldn't get off the plane...

Rings have always been my favorite accessory, and here are a few favorites that I've been dreaming about lately. I'm told jewelry and I repel each other because I can be quite frivolous when it comes to taking care of them... Just a couple of days ago, half way back to our place from The Pearl I realized my necklace was no longer around my neck. Ironically, this realization came as my cousins were kidding about forgetting their bracelets and shopping goods in hopes of returning for another meal at Elevation Burger. I start to cry and ask my mom that we drive back. I retraced our entire walk along The Pearl--and I swear I've pulled something because I've only been able to tip-toe around the house yesterday and today...it hurts when I place my feet fully on the floor--It was no where to be found. So I went back to where we were having coffee, and with the help of the servers, turned the furniture upside down and found it beneath the table. It wasn't the entire necklace though, it was only the pendant! Then walking back to the car, I find the chain by the windows of the Ferrari store! Those who know the story behind the necklace know how long it took me to get it, and the idea of losing it and trying to get another...might take me another 5 years. Thankfully, now it's safe and currently resting on a fluffy Hello Kitty phone holder. 

Back to rings! Here are a few that I love because they're all like little bites out of a fantasy. The Lydia Courteille rings especially are like a surrealist dream meets Alice in Wonderland.

Birthday Girl Homecoming...

My birthday is just under a week away. I'm a little sad…I was hoping I would have a little party with friends in nyc since they're all going to be there, but my mom and sister seem adamant about going. I don't think I've had a proper party since my 8th birthday. Then they just turned to tea parties with teddy bears. I really thought this year would be different, so I'm a little heart broken. I guess in London, I could go to Pete Doherty's show…since he's having one on the night of my bday… But, Amanda Palmer is having a concert in NYC on the 31st! And I was talking to someone earlier about how it would be perfect to meet her so I can ask if I can use the song Delilah for the movie I'll be making… I need that song Amanda <3 

 

I was thinking about doing a holiday/birthday wish list…but the only gifts that really matter to me are the ones that I wear on my right wrist. If I've told you the stories behind them or if I told the story behind my love for the Hand of Hamsa/Fatima and the story about the Hand of Fatima necklace…then you're welcome to have an(/other) addition added. <3 ;) If I get bored later I might make a wish list, but…It doesn't take much to make me smile. Pentagrams, bracelets, Hello Kitty…Debauve and Gallais chocolates… Stars, starfish, sequins….head dresses.

  

I've arrived back home three days ago and it's so great to be back with family. My mom surprised me with the coolest things. Here are my two favorites: 

I've been wanting these shoes forever, and I couldn't believe when I opened up the box to find them. I walked around the house in them the past 3 hours. They're not as high as I expected them to be, but still..They're so beautiful. 

 

I've had my eye on this sequin bag  since seeing it in Saks while in NYC over fall break. I love bags that are either tiny, or really big. And this falls under the latter…It can fit a hass and a loaded half or 2. I've never really been a bag girl, there's always one bag I really like that I'll use the entire season...This one will more than suffice. And it's covered in sequins!! 

 

 

While being home, I've also caught up on the new season of American Horror Story. My jet lag is so terrible that I don't actually sleep until 2pm and I was contemplating with a friend earlier whether it really is jet lag or just the lifestyle here... 

I do like Evan Peters in this season just as much as the last, but I really hope they give Kit more depth and character...His character was much more complex and fascinating as Tate...

Oh also, I finally got to see my Meadham Kirchhoff skirt! It arrived home the day I left for the states. I'm just wondering if I can pull it off for day wear... I love them for making it for me. It's so delicate that I almost don't wanna wear it out, but I can't picture myself not wearing it in the streets of Paris or London. It's like Harajuku Barbie goth lolita couture...

There are a lot of mean people in this world, but don't let them get you down... 

Dress up in a way that Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff would be inspired by, put on a hot pink lip, have a little Stieff rabbit peak from your bag...make sure your nails look really pretty...and be kind and sweet. It'll drive everyone insane...

I miss studying at Mann library…Uris has been much more convenient these days. Hopefully tomorrow, I’ll park at Mann. I miss their Americano and coffee cakes. I’ve been finding myself thinking about Paris a lot lately. I spent my spring break there with my mom…I wish I had the pleasure of writing at Café de Flore every sunset. There’s something about sunsets in Ithaca that’s heartbreaking…. Maybe it’s because I’ve read a lot of Marilyn Monroe books during sunsets here over the summer. Now, they always remind me of her…

 

I need to make a list of things to do before I leave for winter break…and first on the list is buying a Varsity jacket for my younger sister. 

 

This past week I’ve been waking up at around 4.17 every morning by the moon… Thinking a lot about my obsession with Kurt Cobain and Sartre at 15…and all I want to do is watch Sullivan’s Travels until the sun comes up. Someone in London told me I remind them of Veronica Lake in that movie… 

Do you ever come across pieces of clothing that you see, and you’re like oh wow…I wish *insert favorite person name(s) here * could see this on me? Sometimes, I see dresses and I’m like damn, I wish so and so could see this on me…Or I wish I could wear this to a particular party that I plan in my head that never happens…I’ll buy the dress regardless but I’ll never wear it…in fact, a few are still hanging in my closet with the tags on because the imagined occasion or gathering or dream never happened… I could never imagine myself in Jason Wu. Never. I was always a Galliano for Dior girl…and McQueen of course…I like setting the bar for girls who show up wearing Cavalli or Oscar or Lanvin...All fine designers, and all so easy to pull off…and..predictable. You want to be a showstopper, don’t you? Yesterday, I was suggested a dress designed by Jason Wu, and it completely surprised me…I actually could see myself in it. It’s pretty hot…and the back is insane…especially with the harness belt. Yeah…totally want it. And honestly, Ali from NAP is right, it is so me.

I've been thinking a lot lately about whether people are taken by me just because they think I'm interesting or whether they really care and value me for more than just my beautifully twisted transcendent allure with materialism...

I purchased this dress as soon as the lovely Ali from Net-A-Porter sent me the exclusive McQ preview… I was hoping to wear it during Thanksgiving break, but sadly, things didn’t plan out the way I had hoped. It’s not really a dress I can walk into Viva wearing… Or Asia Cusine…Hopefully in NYC...with like an oversized Balmain jacket.  I need to style it so that I it fits the goth princess that I am currently….maybe with an anarchy like tease too. I can’t remember who I was talking to this about, but we were talking about pulling things off…and this friend was like “I’m sure there’s nothing you can’t pull off…” And I was like “Oh there is …*thinks…thinks*……hmmm…wait let me think…” and they replied “See! You have to think about it! There’s nothing you can’t pull off..” I honestly can’t remember who…If it was at Stella’s or Madelines, or over Asian food.. But, yeah, okay I don’t think I can pull off bows. My mom was popular as the girl who always had tied her high pony tail with a bow, or her half up half down hair with a bow…and I can’t… at all.. They’re too sweet for me, and people always say I have the look of a mean girl… that my eyes are mischievous ..(And I’m not mean at all… unless you’re a catty girl who tries to screw with me…)

 I can't believe tomorrow's the last day of class for this semester... Looking forward to winter break. Almond Croissants on my birthday at Ottolenghi, Hours at Cafe Rouge, and 4am mornings watching American Horror Story with the most amazing popcorn ever... 

I've missed the lights of London.

5.5 hours on a sofa, 1.5 hours at the shop, 20 mins at ToT and another hour by the fire.

Saturday night by the fireplace of the library, with grandma drinks, blankets, and red lipstick...A bestie and I talked about devastating things in life, about amazing things in life, about hope and false hope, about caution and about growing up. 

 I'll always give the people I love what they want, even if it means risking ending up black and blue... and quite honestly I do it because I feel they're worth the pain. A best friend once told me that everyone will hurt you eventually but it is whether they're worth the hurt or not is what determines whether you still want them in your life. Sometimes naivety is so overwhelming that you need people to help you see truths; no matter how hard it is to believe, they're the ones that end up protecting you.

I hope this holiday season you are constantly surrounded by the people you love, those that make you happy, and those you can't imagine your life without. 

 

 

We don't mesh well...

Red was never my color. I hated it. Not only was it the black light's color; I found it tacky and overall just horrendous on me....Then I found my love for Tom Ford's red lipstick, and everything changed.

You'll never see me in a red dress....unlesssss... it's the Givenchy slip dress....

Freddie, I know what you're thinking regarding the color...and I'll respond with the same response every time I pick out something you don't like, you'll like it on me. 

Riccardo Tisci expresses every Wiccan dream I have in his collections, I can fit every outfit into one of my wilderness pagan fantasies. In wearing them, I'm so easily deluded to believe I'm actually living scenes from those dreams. (Riccardo, you win my heart like Galliano). 

So, speaking of Givenchy. When I was in Paris during Spring break, all I ever used as a handbag was the Nightingale silver tote. It fit all my essentials perfectly. And, it bought a lot of charisma to every outfit.

When I was studying at Stella's last week, I saw a girl walk by in a very Hussein Chalayan like blocked color coat, and she was holding a Givenchy red Antigona bag. I couldn't take my eyes off her as she passed. Her outfit was beautifully minimalistic and then bang bang, a bolt of red...I called my mom and was like "OMG Mommy, I need a Givenchy red bag..." I doubt I'd go for that kind of shopper...(perhaps the satchel version)  because it's not me at all...too hamptons like, Nightingale ftw...regardless, she carried it well.

She certainly made me want to log in to Barneys and buy one. Later in the day, I saw a girl in a parka holding a box red clutch...It looked like a Chloe sally bag, but, without my glasses, I couldn't be certain. Again, the outfit looked adorable. So I was like, hmmm...I don't think I own a red bag, but I really should... A blood red birkin. Hell yes...or Hell no. Do you ever see something on someone you aren't particularly fond of and then you just don't want to own it? For instance, I remember seeing a girl with a cropped pixie in a teal shift dress, and she looked like...pftt...40ish, holding 7 Miu Miu shopping bags. For some reason, I never shopped at Miu Miu again.

Red lips. I love. They were quite a sweet little disaster today I guess, but I swear I just wanted to look pretty! I was going for the Wiccan goddess teenager in the 90s look. You sip a mug of coffee and red bleeds all over it. Which is pretty cool right, who wouldn't wanna be the girl Gary Barlow sings about...
